From May 28th to 31st, 2025, Hallein becomes a hotspot for creative visions: students of the Departments Creative Technologies The Salzburg University of Applied Sciences invite you to the 13th Creativity Rules Festival. For four days, the old saline and the Hallein city cinema are transformed into a stage for future -oriented projects from design, film, music, art and interactive media. Also included: animated films that were produced by students for the World Exhibition Expo 2025 and celebrate its premiere in Osaka on May 26.
At the center of the festival “Creativity Rules“Is the work show of about 80 final theses from the multimediaart courses, multimedia technology and Realtime Art & Visual Effects – an impressive proof of the creative and technological diversity of the next generation.
Digital innovations and cinematic highlights
This includes the App hearow – A digital navigation aid for the blind and visually impaired people who enables them more independence in everyday life. It will be playful with that VR-Game Botaniversein which users discover their green thumb and shape virtual plant worlds. And the Interactive installation Drawton Transformed pictures drawn by the audience into sounds and music – an experience for eyes and ears.
A special highlight is the cinema afternoon on May 29 in the Hallein City Cinema: In addition to commercials and short films Expo 2025 in Osaka are created. Two animated films that are presented in Japan as part of concerts of the Mozarteumorchestra in Japan are focused on Mozart’s legendary original violin. The result is two independent, detailed short films that impressively make the connection between music tradition and digital creativity. Both films were developed in close cooperation with the University of Mozarteum. Under professional production conditions, the students took all steps – from script development to animation and compositing to sound design.
Inspiration from the creative scene with ADC and CCA
The festival program is enriched by inspiring keynotes and talks. On the opening day (May 28th), Burkhard Müller, Presidium spokesman for Art Director’s Club (ADC), talks about the future of creative agencies in the age of AI. Before that, the media artists give Flavia Mazzanti and Manuel Bonell, insight into their work in the area of virtual reality and interactive installations. As a special guest, the director and University of Applied Sciences Salzburg arrives at Anna Unterweger from Berlin. After the success of her cinema comedy “Broke. Alone. A Kinky Love Story”, she presented her film on Thursday, May 29, in the Stadtkino Hallein during an exclusive screening with subsequent Q&A session.
Also on Friday (May 30th), the Venus Road Show of the Creativ Club Austria (CCA) stops in the Alte Saline Hallein and presents work from Salzburg, which were awarded at the renowned creative competition.
