LR rosary traces climate ambassadors in the Museum Lower Austria
Sankt Pölten (ots) –

The educational project “Climate Change meets Nature Park School” was completed with a celebration in the Lower Austria museum. Over 1,000 pupils from six NÖ. Nature park schools have researched so-called climate corners in the past 18 months-lively measuring instruments for climate change.

“When children observe, document and research, they develop a deep understanding of ecological relationships. This is education that is enthusiastic and responsible,” said State Councilor Susanne Rosenkranz on the occasion of the ceremonial handover of the documents for the “climate ambassadors” in the Museum Lower Austria.

At the center of the project were phenological observations on 12 domestic shrub species that were planted directly on the school grounds. The results flow into an international database via the platform of the Geosphere Austria and thus make a valuable contribution to research and preservation of biodiversity. Klaus Wanninger, managing director of the ecological planning office Lacon, emphasizes: “The students have proven: climate research also works with simple means – and still provides high -quality data for science.”

The project was coordinated by the NÖ NÖ association and co -financed by the science department of the State of Lower Austria. It shows how modern lessons can succeed: outdoor observation, combined with cross -subject lessons in class – supported by digital tools.

“Our nature park schools show how modern education can succeed-practical, effective and full of enthusiasm. Children who research climate change today are the designers of tomorrow. They learn to take responsibility-for themselves, for the community and for our environment,” said Susanne Rosenkranz.

Nature park schools as research laboratories:

  • VS Maiersdorf, Hohe Wand Nature Park

  • NMS Spitz, Nature Park Jauerling

  • VS Hinterbrühl, Sarbach Nature Park

  • Öko-NMS Ernstbrunn, Nature Park Leiser Mountains

  • SPZ Purkersdorf, Naturpark Purkersdorf

  • VS Gaming, Nature Park Ötscher-Tormäuer

In the garden of the Museum Lower Austria, too, a climate corner and information boards remain as a visible sign – as an invitation to the public to discover and understand climate change on site.
