The daffodils bloom again
Every year between mid -May and mid -June, the meadows in the Ausseerland Salzkammergut transform into a white sea of blossoms, then the daffodils unfold their full splendor again. The Ausseerland traditionally celebrates this time with the Narcissus Festival, which takes place in Altaussee from Thursday, May 29th to Sunday, June 1st.
If the meadows in Ausseerland fill up with the magnificent narcissus blossoms, then it is clear – the narcissus festival is just around the corner. From Thursday, May 29th to Sunday, June 1st, the Narcissus Festival 2025 in Altaussee will take place for the 65th time. The weekend comes up with many highlights: Among other things, the organizers invite you to pick and hike narcissuses and there are various exhibitions and tours in local companies. The festival is framed by various musical sounds at concerts and as an icing on the cake, restaurateurs from the Ausseerland spoil visitors with culinary specialties. The annual narcissus festival has a special status for the Styrian Ausseerland Salzkammergut.
Who becomes a daffodil queen?
The weekend starts with a highlight: On Thursday, May 29, the narcissus sovereigns are crowned in a ceremony. At 7 p.m. in the Kur- & Congresshaus Bad Aussee, the coronation evening takes place with the choice of this year’s daffodil queen and her princesses. This year Magdalena Egger from Bad Mitterndorf, Celina Gschaider from Seekirchen am Wallersee and Johanna Murauer from Altmünster am Traunsee of the choice. Magdalena emphasizes: “It is an indescribable feeling to represent my homeland, the Ausseerland and its values”. For Johanna, the most important thing is to “be part of a tradition that combines customs, community and nature”. Celina also sees it as a “huge honor” to be one of the narcissus sovereignty. She wants to “show the region and its beauty, but at the same time pass on a little joy of life and warmth”.
Fashion meets art in “decrepit”
A special program item is the Narcissus Festival Mode Show “Explosive”, which takes place on Saturday, May 31, at 4 and 7.30 p.m. in the Kur- & Congresshaus Bad Aussee. Under the artistic direction of Michael Pinnisch, the focus is on Austrian artists that inspire the traditional costume and fashion outfitters of the Ausseerland to unique creations “. Fashion is shown by locals, children from the Ausseerland dance studio and clients of Lebenshilfe Ausseerland. The works of the artists can be admired from May 26 to June 10th in the Bad Aussee factory.
Highlight: Narcissus Corso on Lake Altaussee on Sunday
The highlight of the Narcissus Festival is the narcissus body in Altaussee on Sunday, June 1st, from nine o’clock. A versatile program with music, magicians and culinary specialties awaits the guests. The traditional boat body on Lake Altaussee starts at 2 p.m., the announcement of the award -winning characters is the crowning glory of the daffodil festival at 3 p.m.
