Fun is more important than salary increase and promotion

A representative survey by Karreiere.at among 1,000 workers in Austria shows that career goals are diverse and are strongly related to personal well -being, interests and values for the majority. The fun in the job is in first place – nine out of ten respondents (89 %) gave them as a career goal. Behind it follows with an increase in salary and the work-life balance (79 %) follows in third place. On the other hand, the assumption of more professional and/or personnel responsibility in the form of a promotion is just under half of the respondents (47 %). Only 7 percent of those surveyed have no goals.

More men strive for personnel responsibility

While every third man states to strive for promotion to the manager, this applies only to 17 percent of women. Women, on the other hand, want to develop professionally without assuming personnel responsibility.

Regardless of gender, speak for those who strive for a leadership position, the higher salary, more demanding activity and more decision -making powers for this. Women also often state that they have an interest in personnel development, for men the expansion of influence and scope for design plays a greater role.

“We see both similarities and differences in terms of motivation for management positions in men and women. Women justify their wish to become a manager, more often than men with their interest in personnel development. Conversely, the associated greater responsibility is also the reason that is most likely to deter women before a leadership position,” says Georg Konjovic, CEO at Kariere.at.

Care goals change in the course of life

There are slight differences in weighting between the age groups: for the 50- to 60-year-olds, the focus is on working and the foundation of the meaning as career goals (95 and 88 percent). In comparison, the professional and personal development of younger employees between the ages of 18 and 29 has a higher priority. Later, work-life balance gains importance.

Campaign focuses on individual potential

Also the current Karroiere.at campaign with the new brand appearance Has launched, the individuality of modern career paths lives up to do justice. It inspires people to recognize and use their personal potential. The focus is on the message: “Together you can achieve great, you and your potential!” For some, this means to draw attention to themselves in the first job, to unite for others, private life and work as best as possible, to be promoted for others and to take on more responsibility. The individual potential is visualized using animated characters.

“We want to support all people in fully developing their individual potential. We encourage employers to enable their employees to have individual career paths, for example by offering the professional career in addition to transport to the manager,” says Georg Konjovic, CEO at Kare.at.
