On the occasion of Europe on May 9th and the entire European week, a variety of events across Austria invites you to participate, discuss and celebrate. The focus is on the 30th anniversary of Austria’s EU accession and the exchange between citizens: inside and MEPs.
Experience Europe: Discussion and hands-on program in Vienna
Am Friday, May 9th, 2025offers “Experience Europe“A full-day program for Europe Day at Rotenturmstraße 19. The focus is on discussions between citizens: interior and MEPs as well as various hands-on activities. The five MEPs Lukas Mandl (ÖVP), Alexander Bernhuber (ÖVP), Anna Stürgkh (Neos), Thomas Waitz (Greens) and Lena Schilling (Greens) spend large parts of the day on site to get into conversation with citizens: to listen, listen and reflect on Europe together. Competitions, a varied children’s program and selected film screenings complete the festival program.
Europe day on Mariahilfer Straße – “Mahü becomes European”
Am Saturday, May 10th, 2025Mariahilfer Straße in Vienna is transformed between Zollergasse and Nelkengasse from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. In a stage of European diversity. Under the motto “Europe day on the Mahü“Expects visitors: a colorful live program with music, dance and cultural contributions from different countries in Europe.
EU projects, country representatives and civil society initiatives present themselves at information stands. The MEP takes over the opening Lukas Mandl (ÖVP). The event is organized by the federal government of European Youth and Vienna Goes Europe.
#Thinkbeforeyoushare – measures against disinformation
The European Week is also the prelude to a focus of the European Parliament in the fight against disinformation. Under the motto #Democracyinaction and #Thinkbeforeyoushare, the European Parliament’s liaison office in Austria takes targeted measures to strengthen media literacy and promote fact -based discourse.
A highlight is that Action day on June 6, 2025 in Innsbruckthe interactive formats such as the “Bad News Game” and a city walk with the MEP Sophia Kircher (ÖVP), scientist: interior and journalist: inside. The aim is to sensitize young people in particular to the dangers of disinformation and to strengthen their ability to assess critical information.
