Vienna (OTS) – Lose weight quickly as if by magic: Ever since celebrities like Robbie Williams or Kim Kardashian showed how they can achieve significant weight loss in a very short time by administering an injection, a real hype arose last year around drugs like “Ozempic” or “Wegovy”. The main active ingredient of these medicines is semaglutide, which makes you feel full faster, regulates insulin levels and thus helps to avoid food cravings. But the increased “off-label use” of the drugs since then has also sparked a number of controversies. “Weight loss injection: What’s left of the hype?” asks ORF III health expert Siegfried Meryn on Wednesday, January 17th, at 10:30 p.m. in a new edition of “MERYNS sprachzimmer” and takes stock with renowned experts.
In Austria, too, the weight loss syringe has established itself as a lifestyle product and is prescribed “off label” to help people lose weight. The drug was originally used to treat patients with obesity and secondary diseases such as diabetes or high blood pressure. However, the increased “off-label use” of “Ozempic” & Co is controversial:
Consumers complain about side effects and due to the high demand there were shortages and endangerment of patients who depend on the medication.
