A ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia seems to be possible after three years of war and hundreds of thousands of dead and injured. In a personal conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, US President Donald Trump wants to talk directly about the conditions for an armistice for the first time.
Ukraine’s President Wolodymyr Selenskyj – as last in the negotiations in Saudi Arabia – is not directly involved. Donald Trump’s (re) moving in in the White House brought a radical realignment of US Ukraine policy. Instead of securing America’s support, Trump even accused Selenskyj of not wanting to peace. Trump only wants to give security guarantees in the course of a raw material deal.
The EU criticizes Trump’s politics and wants to increase the pressure on Russia through sanctions. In addition to a European peace force in Ukraine with partners such as Great Britain and Norway as well as new arms deliveries, the Union is planning a upgrade program in billions. This is intended to strengthen your own defense power against a further push of Russia.
