In the exhibition Paper, stone, scissors – materials and tools of art In the newly opened children’s art laboratory for contemporary art, the works of international artists meet: inside the perspective of children and all those interested in art.
The gesture of the stronger position wins in the child’s play “scissors, stone, paper”, which is often used for decision -making. But power is always relative. The paper is stronger than the stone, but the stone wins against the scissors, which in turn defeats the paper.
The title of the exhibition refers to this game Paper, stone, scissorsthat addresses the materials and tools of art. Which materials artists: choose inside and how they work with it depends on their possibilities, perceptions and preferences in the context of their lives, their childhood.
“What role do childhood experiences play when choosing materials? How can we address sustainability and technological developments in art? The social dimension and ambivalence of materials should be experienced as well as their artistic potential. ”
– Mona Jas, artistic director of children’s art laboratory
In the exhibition, works can be experienced that, especially for a young audience, make these specific interrelationships between biography, history and artistic work sensually and aesthetically experienced.
The work of Maria Bartuszová is an example of this: “Your works appear as abstract bronze or aluminum sculptures. But they are primarily tools to gain haptic and formal experiences. Her sculptures were primarily intended for blind children. By touching the works, tactile perception is sensitized “
