Don Giovanni in Rome, Così fan tutte in Porto, Le Nozze di Figaro in Stockholm and La Bohème in Oslo and Salzburg. What started in 2018 under the project title “Opera Out of Opera” will take place from 2023 to 2025. Co -financed by the Creative European Program of the European Commission, “Opera Out of Opera II” builds on the results of the first project time – with the aim of developing innovative opera formats for new target groups.
The “Opera Out of Opera” project was launched to inspire new generations with creative solutions for the opera. The aim is to create a new, visually appealing and easily reproducible opera format that actively integrates young people and offers them a modern opera experience both live and digital.
With La Bohème, “Opera Out of Opera” comes back to Salzburg on March 8, 2025. The first part of the play will be shown on February 19, 2025 at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts (Khio), the second part at the University of Mozarteum Salzburg, the first act in the Max Schlereth Saal, the second act in the foyer and the third act in the small studio.
In their form, too, all individual acts differ from each other. The audience is sent on a journey through various rooms and forms of representation. Sometimes the story of Puccini appears classically on stage with orchestra, sometimes on a canvas, sometimes as an immersive room with sound installation. So the work is constantly deconstructed and put together again. In terms of content, all of the files remain closely interwoven: the staging tries to draw connecting lines, which hold together the fragments of the “Opera Out of Opera – La Bohème” like cords.
Under the direction of Mario Diaz, with an international ensemble of singing, scenography and costume images, the young directorial team with Till Ernecke and Rahel Hofbauer develops a draft draft newly thought at all levels, which brings the opera into its individual parts.
The project, which is funded by the Executive Agency, Audiovisual and Culture (Eacea) as part of the Creative Europe program, combines leading European cultural and educational institutions, including the conservatorio di Musica “Santa Cecilia” (Italy), the Kunsthøgskolen I Oslo (Norway), the Instituto Politécnico do Portugal), The Association Européenne des Conservatoires (Belgium), Nova Opera (Ukraine), the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra since 2024, which is currently in Residence (France) and the University of Mozarteum Salzburg (Austria) as part of Monheimer Kulturwerke GmbH in Monheim am Rhein, and which is currently in Salzburg (Austria). guides.
