The Green Minister is obviously consciously working against majority projects in Vienna
Vienna (OTS) – “There must be an end to the fact that Federal Minister Leonore Gewessler is obviously blocking projects in Vienna. This contradicts the responsibility of a minister responsible for this,” said city councilor Karl Mahrer, state party chairman of the Vienna People’s Party. For many months, the necessary traffic calming in the inner city has been deliberately prevented for reasons that are incomprehensible.
“To date, no suitable draft law has been presented, and an invitation to expert discussions agreed between the People’s Party and the Greens has been outstanding from Federal Minister Gewessler since November 2023,” said MP Andreas Ottenschläger, transport spokesman for the Austrian People’s Party. According to the responsible city councilor, the city of Vienna has not yet been involved in the amendment by the minister. “It is obvious that the minister’s approach is delaying the planned traffic calming that was promised to the people in the inner city,” Ottenschläger continued.
This delaying tactic is not new – the implementation of the Lobau Tunnel has also been prevented by the minister to date. “There is a valid legislative resolution by the National Council and therefore a legal mandate. This is simply ignored for ideological reasons,” continued Mahrer. In all cases, the people who suffer are the Viennese. “From the perspective of the Vienna People’s Party, this type of administration is no longer acceptable,” Mahrer concluded.
