15 years “fasting, sharing, helping”: living together – together
Vienna (OTS) –

For 15 years now, “Fasting, Share, Help” (FTH) has stood for social responsibility, active coexistence and social commitment. What started as a small initiative in 2010 is now the largest Muslim social initiative in Austria. Year after year, over 10,000 young Muslims in Lent Monat Ramadan have been committed to more than 400 charitable projects for those who need support. In over 150 facilities – from homeless accommodation to children’s centers to retirement homes – bring help to where it is needed.

This longstanding commitment is based on strong partnerships: the MJÖ cooperates with Caritas, Diakonie, the Red Cross, the aid organization, the Volkshilfe, the Ute Bock Foundation and many more Cooperation partners.

For a solidary society

The MJÖ understands “fasting, sharing, helping” not only as a charitable project, but also as a preventive initiative against extremism and radicalization: “Especially in times of growing social division, we are making a clear sign of together instead of each other. We deliberately give young people the chance to get involved and enable them to experience self -efficacy and to shape positive change, ”says Adis Šerifović, Federal Chairman of the MJÖ. This year, too, the largest Iftare in Austria come together under the anniversary motto “Fasting 15 years, help – for 15 years together” thousands of people – regardless of origin, religion or worldview. These encounters stand for lived solidarity, openness, mutual appreciation and interreligious dialogue.

15 years of effect: a commitment that is recognized

MJÖ’s commitment has been recognized several times in recent years – both by civil society and politics. Among other things, the former National Council President Mag. Wolfgang Sobotka (ÖVP) and numerous other political representatives participated in the charitable promotions. The MJÖ was also awarded the European Youth Carl Prize and the Austrian Youth Prize – confirmation of the sustainable contribution that young Muslim women in Austria make.
