The latest findings on the knife attack in Villach, according to which the suspicion of a terrorist motive seems to be confirmed, are deeply shocking and in all clarity. This hideous act is in complete contradiction to the values of our faith and cannot be justified by anything. The instrumentalization of Islam for extremist purposes distorts our religion and is used specifically to spread hatred and violence. The perfidious strategy of these terrorists, indiscriminately spreading in crowds and spreading panic, aims to sow fear and chaos in society.
The President of the IGGÖ, ümit Vural, emphasizes: “These acts of violence, which are committed to Islam under abuse, have nothing in common with the real values of our faith. Any form of violence and terrorism is a distortion of these values and represents an attack on society and the harmony of the human community. Ideologies that instrumentalize our religion for their reprehensible goals are a danger to our society and must be combated with all determination . ”
The IGGÖ is committed to a peaceful and respectful coexistence without restriction and expresses their deepest sympathy for the victims and their families. In close coordination with the Islamic Religious Community of Carinthia, she is currently examining which pastoral support and other help offers can be organized in order to support those affected and show solidarity. In this difficult time, it is of particular importance that all social groups work together and make their solidarity visible.
