The practice of Helvetia Versicherung, who has been lived for years, has now been officially confirmed with the state quality sign “Professional Family”. The compatibility of family and work is a central part of the corporate culture and is also reflected in the corporate purple “if it is important”. Through certification, Helvetia makes this commitment visible and takes further, sustainable measures.
»Our task is to individually support and secure people in different phases of life and situations – this counts for our customers as well as for our employees. The question of compatibility of work and family is an important factor that we will focus more on in the future, «summarizes Bernd Allmer, Head of HR & Corporate Development, the motives for certification.
Family concept broadly thought
Helvetia relies on a modern family concept. In its package of measures, the asset also deliberately integrates activities away from the classic core family. “In addition to the existing and planned initiatives for parents, we also see the care of older family members as well as partnerships,” explains Thorid Othegraven, team leader HR and company development at Helvetia. »We generally rely on a diverse and inclusive work environment in which the compatibility of work and family is a matter of course.

Support for mental stress
In the first step, existing measures were identified and more specifically communicated. “Many employees were not aware of which support offers already exist,” continues Othegraven. For example, Helvetia has been offering a contingent of consulting hours for mental stress or actively promotes fathers participation in childcare.
Care of relatives
In addition, further measures were identified and together with the management: the support of nursing employees in a heart topic. »As an insurer, we are very aware of demographic change. In addition to their profession, more and more employees are taking care of nursing tasks. We would like to stand aside to these employees, «emphasizes Thorid Othegraven.
Possibilities of exemption that go beyond the legal level are currently being examined. »To continue the decisive step and offer more than necessary – this is what Helvetia distinguishes this
«, Bernd Allmer clarified. In addition to the measures for employees, Helvetia focuses on awareness and training of managers in order to further strengthen acceptance for the topic.
Information platform on the subject of family
An internal information platform on family -relevant topics has already been implemented. In the intranet, easily accessible information about central questions about family and work are available – from pregnancy and maternity leave to the care of relatives. In addition to valuable tips and personal reports, employees also find comprehensive information on financial support offers – from the company such as authorities.
Excellent HR
In addition to the certification »professional family«, Helvetia can look forward to numerous awards in the area of HR: For the fourth time in a row, the insurance was awarded by the »Top Employer« institute. The company was able to improve in almost all categories compared to the previous year or keep the existing values. This means that Helvetia belongs to only 20 companies in Austria who have received this coveted award.
Recruiting was recently awarded silver at the “Best Recruiter’s study”. Of a total of 562 employers tested in Austria, Helvetia reached 11th place – an improvement by around 50 places compared to the previous year.
