Shanghai Electric (SEHK:2727, SSE:601727) recently received multiple certifications for projects in photovoltaics, sustainable thermal power, safety and environmental protection, recognizing its energy engineering capabilities in Dubai, Oman, Bangladesh and Malaysia. The company also led community building initiatives in Pakistan.
In the area of safety, Shanghai Electric received a certificate of recognition for exemplary HSE performance at the Noor Energy 1 solar project, a 950 MW hybrid solar power plant consisting of CSP and PV in the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park in Dubai. The team has completed 15 million safe working hours by identifying security risks, carefully planning major operations and implementing robust risk control measures. Strict security protocols for subcontractors ensured comprehensive monitoring. The department committed to constant vigilance and system optimization to support the stable operations and long-term sustainability of the project. The company also received certification for 3 million safe working hours at the Manah-1 independent solar power plant in Oman. Despite the new challenges and tight schedule, the team ensured safety with strict protocols, emergency drills and a zero-accident record.
Shanghai Electric’s 800 MW Rupsha combined cycle power plant project in Bangladesh received certification for five million safe working hours. Safety was the team’s top priority. It followed strict procedures, carried out regular inspections and provided targeted training to ensure steady progress and effective risk management.
Environmental protection
Shanghai Electric’s waste-to-energy plant in Selangor, Malaysia, has been awarded the annual Environmental Management Excellence Award by the Selangor Environmental Protection Bureau. This award, along with eight previous environmental management awards, underscore the project’s commitment to sustainability. As the first waste-to-energy plant in Selangor, the project received widespread attention local interest. Shanghai Electric adhered to strict environmental regulations, took effective measures, and was praised by all stakeholders. The project staff also participated in a beach clean-up event organized by the Environmental Protection Bureau to promote environmental awareness, reduce coastal pollution and protect marine biodiversity, further strengthening the company’s international reputation for environmental stewardship.
Community building
In Pakistan’s Thar region, where educational resources are scarce, Shanghai Electric’s project team donated 1,221 sets of textbooks, school supplies and drinking water buckets to local schools to alleviate the severe shortage. The donation also included national anthem plaques for classrooms and nameplates for school entrances to support cultural and infrastructural development. This initiative improves local education and promotes sustainable community development. By strengthening community relations, the project team reaffirmed its commitment to the common good and promised continued support in the areas of education, healthcare, environmental protection and infrastructure.
