Institute Krems Bioanalytics celebrates its anniversary

Krems (OTS) –

The Institute Krems Bioanalytics (IKB), the contract research institute of the IMC University of Applied Sciences Krems, is celebrating a decade of biotechnological excellence. Since its founding in 2014 by Prof. (FH) Priv.-Doz. Mag. Andreas Eger, the IKB has established itself as an internationally recognized center for bioanalytics. Using state-of-the-art technology, the institute supports pharmaceutical companies and research institutions worldwide in the development of innovative therapies – from preclinical research to market approval. The tenth anniversary was celebrated on January 17th with a ceremony in the presence of LH deputy Dr. Stephan Pernkopf was duly celebrated.

“The Institute Krems Bioanalytics is a prime example of how scientific excellence and economic relevance can go hand in hand”explains Mag. Ulrike Prommer, managing director of IMC Krems. “The team’s outstanding achievements not only contribute to the further development of international pharmaceutical research, but also strengthen Lower Austria’s position as a research location.”

The IKB can look back on numerous successes. It received the internationally recognized GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) certification from AGES in 2016. This standard is essential for regulatory acceptance of bioanalytical data. In 2021, an endowed professorship for mass spectrometry was established, funded by the state of Lower Austria. This technology enables high-precision analyzes of proteins and biomarkers and is now a research focus of the institute. In addition, the IKB has accompanied numerous drug candidates from the preclinical phase through to approval and provided crucial data for pharmaceutical submissions.

“Our goal from the start was to build a bridge between science and practice”explains Dr. Christian Lubich, head of the institute. “We owe the successes of the last ten years to a highly motivated team, strong partnerships and continuous investments in modern technologies.”

The IKB is also planning ambitious projects in the future: The focus is on setting up a competence center for mass spectrometry, digitizing and automating processes, and introducing GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) standards.

“The Krems Bioanalytics Institute has been able to grow from five to 40 highly qualified employees in recent years, also thanks to the financing of an endowed professorship worth 1.8 million euros by the state of Lower Austria. The institute has established itself as a magnet for top researchers from all over the world and is a best practice example for the transfer of research results into practical application. This is also reflected in the fact that globally active research institutions and companies work together with the institute.”said LH deputy Dr. Stephan Pernkopf.
