Focus on Tyrol and Salzburg; first snow chain requirements
Vienna (OTS) – The holidaymakers’ return journey began in full force on Saturday morning, January 6th. The ÖAMTC experts recorded delays of more than an hour in Tyrol on the Arlberg expressway (S16) in front of the St. Jakob toll booth towards Bregenz and on the Fernpass route (B179) in both directions. In Salzburg, around midday, almost ten kilometers of backlog and a journey time of more than one and a half hours were observed on the Tauern Autobahn (A10) in front of the Werden-Golling construction site area towards Germany. On the Pinzgauer Straße (B311) between Zell am See and Lofer, progress was very slow at times.
In Styria, those driving home had to be patient for three quarters of an hour on the Pyhrn Autobahn (A9) between Rottenmann and Trieben. There were border waiting times of up to 45 minutes when entering Austria at Nickelsdorf (A4).
At higher altitudes in Vorarlberg, Tyrol, Salzburg and Carinthia, all vehicles or vehicles over 3.5 tons often required snow chains, for example over Arlberg, Katschberg and Nassfeld. Based on the weather forecast, the ÖAMTC fears significant disruptions due to wintry driving conditions, especially on Saturday night and Sunday.
