SMATRICS EnBW is planning 200 new high-speed charging points in Austria in 2024

After 100 new high-speed charging points in 2023, SMATRICS EnBW is doubling its expansion plans by the end of 2024.

Vienna (OTS) Austria’s largest nationwide fast charging network is being further expanded. By the end of the year, 200 additional high-performance HPC charging points with up to 400 kW of power will be available via SMATRICS EnBW along the high-level road network and in urban supermarket parking lots – the expansion hotspots are located along the western and southern motorways.

The first large, partly covered fast-charging parks will go into operation in 2024: charging parks with 16 fast-charging points each will be built in Innermanzing (Lower Austria) as well as Regau and Vorchdorf (Upper Austria). Another fast-charging park with 12 charging points is being added in Spielberg (Styria).

E-mobility has long been suitable for everyday use“, says Thomas Landsbek, CEO at SMATRICS EnBW. “Further expansion requires fast charging infrastructure not only along highways, but also in retail and in cities. We are therefore expanding our offerings to other regions and additional areas.

The advantage of combining shopping and stores is obvious. Drivers can conveniently charge while they shop. “Ultra-fast charging allows us to integrate e-mobility more easily into our everyday lives. With our state-of-the-art fast charging parks, vehicles can charge for up to 100 kilometers in five minutes. This is how we combine the highest loading speeds with excellent service quality“, says Hauke Hinrichs, COO at SMATRICS EnBW.

Offer charging parks where everyday life takes place

SMATRICS EnBW is therefore continuing its collaboration with retailers. As part of the cooperation with the REWE Group in Austria, up to 120 more locations will be added to the existing 70 locations (BILLA, BILLA PLUS, PENNY) by 2025. The SMATRICS EnBW charging network will also be significantly expanded next year with other retail partners, including BAUHAUS Austria and METRO.

Expansion of offerings away from motorways too

The Federal Ministry for Climate Protection’s “Promotion of charging infrastructure in currently underserved areas” (LADIN) provides additional support for expansion in locations away from metropolitan areas. In addition to charging options for cars, SMATRICS EnBW will also be expanding loading spaces for trucks from 2024 where there is enough space.

With this commitment, SMATRICS EnBW is also consolidating the cross-border EnBW HyperNetz for drivers in Austria with fast charging points of the highest performance class. The electricity used to operate the charging stations remains unchanged: with 100 percent renewable energy from VERBUND, sustainability continues.
