“Hard Germany – Life in Focus” accompanies people who struggle with homelessness and drug addiction. The long-term report documents the everyday lives of these people, as well as the work of helpers in the toughest drug scenes in Germany. Each episode highlights the hotspots of a major German city. In the new episodes these are Munich, Hamburg, Cologne, Frankfurt, Bremen, Leipzig and the Ruhr area. The new episodes will be broadcast from January 9, 2025, every Thursday at 8:15 p.m. on RTLZWEI.

“Hard Germany – Life in Focus” returns to the screens in prime time. The new episodes focus on the hotspot districts in Munich, Augsburg, Bremen, Leipzig, Cologne, Hamburg, Frankfurt and the Ruhr area. The documentary shows the deprivation of everyday life for addicts on the street.
One of the illuminated drug locations is Bremen Central Station. The report accompanies women suffering from addiction and documents the problems that women have to contend with in the drug scene. As hard drug users, they need a lot of money every day. Some see no other way out than to prostitute themselves. So does 21-year-old Lara. After her single mother died, she ended up on the streets two and a half years ago. Lara still suffers from the loss to this day. Every day she spends many hours restlessly at the train station – buying and consuming crack, which she finances through begging and prostitution.
In Cologne, too, the situation in the central drug hotspots continues to deteriorate. Citizens’ initiatives are sounding the alarm: the situation will have worsened dramatically again in 2024. One reason for this is that crack has replaced heroin as the predominant drug, with dramatic consequences. Experts are observing a massive increase in psychological problems in the Cologne scene and an increasing impoverishment of people suffering from addiction.
