From January 1, 2025, the new Vienna state operating regulations for taxis will come into force – a regulation that was intended as a milestone for climate protection, but is now presenting taxi operators with enormous problems. Instead of driving forward the switch to e-mobility, the regulation is leading to a massive backlash: more and more entrepreneurs are investing in combustion engines or hybrids in order to circumvent the requirements for fear of economic losses.
SWV WIEN President Marko Fischer and the chairwoman of the Transport & Traffic division in SWV WIEN, Katarina Pokornyshow why the current regulation is doomed to fail and how a flexible, strategic solution can actually make the transition to emission-free mobility feasible. With gradual CO₂ limits, a reliable charging infrastructure and targeted funding, the trust of entrepreneurs can be regained and Vienna can be established as a pioneer for sustainable mobility.
