“With Hannes Androsch, our country has lost a great industrialist, a great politician and a great personality. Our condolences go out to his family and relatives at this time,” said State Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner on the death of Hannes Androsch.
“Androsch and I only came together in the spring to open the new climate chambers at the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Tulln. A highly innovative project that has strengthened the resilience of our agricultural economy to climate change,” said Mikl-Leitner: “Here the pioneer Hannes Androsch once again appeared.” The state governor continued: “He was a man who cared deeply about the future of his homeland. Until the very end, he dealt with the major future issues of our country – always passionately and critically, always reflected and with a lot of foresight. Hannes Androsch was a great one. He will be missed by this republic.”
“His word was heard, his opinion was valued,” the state governor also remembers “many exciting and insightful conversations” with Hannes Androsch: “Even if we didn’t always agree, every encounter with him was a great enrichment. His focus was always on the future and on moving forward together. His life’s work will never be forgotten,” said Mikl-Leitner.
“He helped shape and write the fate and history of this republic,” said the state governor about Androsch, who had a very close connection to Lower Austria, including through his chairmanship of the supervisory board of the Austrian Institute of Technology in Seibersdorf. Androsch recently also agreed to contribute to a publication in connection with the commemorative year of 2025.
As Finance Minister and Vice Chancellor under Bruno Kreisky, Androsch was “a defining figure in Austrian politics,” “with an incredible willingness to shape things and a great deal of implementation strength,” said Mikl-Leitner. As a politician and, above all, later as an industrialist, he was a “constant driver of innovation and modernizer” and “raised the Austrian business location to a completely new level.”
