Eisenstadt (OTS) – At the beginning of the year, ORF Burgenland is increasing its program offerings for the Burgenland Croats, Hungarians, Czechs, Slovaks and Roma ethnic groups. There will be more broadcasting time in the ethnic group languages on both television and radio. The offering on the Internet is also being expanded accordingly.
“Music Mosaic” starts on Radio Burgenland
Radio Burgenland’s radio program is being expanded to include a new dimension: the introduction of the new music program “Music Mosaic” brings the diverse sounds in the languages of the ethnic groups directly into the listeners’ living rooms. The Burgenland Croats, Hungarians, Czechs, Slovaks and Roma each receive their own one-hour program, which is broadcast alternately every Wednesday evening from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. or from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Radio Burgenland. Starts on Wednesday, January 3rd, 2024.
“WIR| CZECH, CROAT, MAGYAROK, ROMA, SLOVAK, SLOVENIC” erstmals in ORF 2
With the future premiere of the multilingual TV program “WIR | ČEŠI, HRVATI, MAGYAROK, ROMA, SLOVÁCI, SLOVENCI” on ORF 2, ORF is once again presenting itself as the most important multilingual platform for the six autochthonous ethnic groups in Austria. In the future, the program will be broadcast nationally every second Friday at 10.40 a.m. on ORF 2 and will have fixed German subtitles for viewers. It starts on Friday, January 19, 2024, at 10:40 a.m., on ORF 2. In addition, the program will be repeated every second Sunday at 9:00 a.m. on ORF III with optional subtitles.
“WE | ČEŠI, HRVATI, MAGYAROK, ROMA, SLOVÁCI, SLOVENCI” is a unique program that is created in close collaboration between the ethnic group editorial team in the ORF regional studio in Burgenland and the Slovenian editorial team at ORF Kärnten. The contributions in the six autochthonous ethnic group languages convey an authentic and representative picture of the social and linguistic diversity in Austria.
ORF Burgenland country director Werner Herics: “These new program offerings not only inform a broader audience about the content and concerns of the ethnic groups in Austria, but also satisfy the legal requirement to increase the proportion in the ethnic group languages. The new radio show ‘ “Music Mosaic” fits harmoniously into Radio Burgenland’s program and brings listeners closer to music in the languages of the autochthonous ethnic groups in Austria.”
Dorottya Kelemen, head of the ethnic group editorial team: “Coming up with a new program is always a challenge. ‘Music Mosaic’ focuses on music and is aimed equally at members of the ethnic group and those who do not speak any of the ethnic group languages.”
New start times for TV magazines from 2024
From 2024 onwards, viewers can expect a slight change in the broadcast slots of the TV magazines for the ethnic groups. The TV programs “Adj’ Isten, Magyarok” (Hungarian), “České Ozvěny | Slovenské Ozveny” (Czech and Slovak) and “Romano Dikipe” (Burgenland Romani) will now start at 2:05 p.m. instead of the previous 1:05 p.m. The programs will continue to be broadcast alternately every second Sunday of the month on ORF 2 Burgenland and Vienna. Starts on Sunday, January 14th, 2024.
The Croatian TV magazine “Dobar dan Hrvati” is also experiencing a slight time difference. From 2024, the show will no longer start at 1:30 p.m. but at 1:35 p.m. “Dobar dan Hrvati” is broadcast every Sunday on ORF 2 Burgenland.
More offers on the internet
There will be more information in the languages of the ethnic groups on the Internet every day, available on the homepage volksgruppen.ORF.at. Since 2023, all radio magazines in Croatian, Hungarian, Czech, Slovak and Burgenland Romani have also been offered as podcasts; they can also be streamed and listened to via the Radio Burgenland app. The TV magazines for the ethnic groups will also be available longer in the ORF TVthek from 2024.
