The pointed political talk “Aktuell: Die Woche” with moderator Meinrad KnappPolicy Advisor Thomas Hofer and pollsters Peter Hajek reviews the political week every Friday at 7:50 p.m. on PULS 24, at 10:20 p.m. on ATV and on Austria’s SuperStreamer JOYN. Among other things, the results of Peter Hajek’s current opinion survey will be discussed. This time, we wanted to find out from 500 Austrians eligible to vote in field work on December 2nd and 5th which party has the best solutions when it comes to the economy. The question was: “What do you think, which party or parties have the best ideas and concepts to stimulate the economy or do you currently not trust any party to do that?”
Of all those surveyed, the ÖVP performed best with 22 percent. Behind them are the FPÖ with 20 percent and the NEOS with 17 percent, followed by the SPÖ with 10 percent as well as the Greens (5 percent) and the KPÖ (2 percent). However, the number of people who do not attest that any party has economic competence is significantly greater than the support for the ÖVP – 37 percent do not see any of the parties mentioned as a good option. Things look a little different in the individual groups of voters: 60 percent of ÖVP voters are convinced that their own party has economic competence. At least over half of the voters in the FPÖ (55 percent) and the NEOS (51 percent) also believe that their own party can convince in terms of economic competence. The situation is different with the SPÖ, where only 33 percent of voters see competence in their own ranks – and only 26 percent of the Greens.
Peter Hajek: “In the current situation, the population doesn’t really trust any party to pull the economic cart out of the mud again. Aside from the dreary mood, what is striking is how little trust SPÖ and Green voters have in their own party.”
