Concerns about cuts to language courses

Stuttgart (OTS) –

Ernst Klett Sprachen Verlag is following the Federal Government’s plans to cut integration and professional language courses in the 2025 budget with great concern. These drastic savings represent dramatic underfunding and endanger the future of the entire system for the linguistic and professional integration of immigrants.

“With the funds provided, not even half of the required integration courses can be carried out. This is an unacceptable step backwards – for the participants who are dependent on language courses and for the companies that are urgently looking for skilled workers,” explains the management of Ernst Klett Languages Publisher.

Underfunding with far-reaching consequences

According to the current budget draft, only 500 million euros should be made available for integration courses in 2025. This means that only 30 percent of the required new courses could be offered. The job-related language courses that follow the integration courses and prepare people for entry into the job market are also massively underfunded.

The cuts will result in significant waiting times, which will harm both participants and companies. “The effects of such austerity measures are unacceptable: teachers lose their jobs, structures collapse and providers run into economic bottlenecks. The success of integration measures is crucial for the future viability of our country,” the management continued.

Support for the DVV position paper

The publisher supports the position paper of the German Adult Education Association (DVV), which is supported by a broad alliance of other associations and makes clear demands to the federal government:

  • An increase in funding for integration courses in the 2025 budget to at least 1.1 billion euros.
  • Sufficient funding for professional language courses to offer all necessary new courses.

“Integration is an ongoing task. The federal government must keep its promise to offer integration courses for everyone. Otherwise there is a risk of social and economic regression that we cannot afford,” emphasizes the publishing house’s management. To the DVV position paper

A plea for education and integration

Ernst Klett Sprachen is actively committed to promoting integration and education and is therefore appealing to the federal government not to implement the austerity measures. This is the only way to ensure that refugees and immigrants in Germany have the chance to integrate successfully. The planned cuts not only endanger the future prospects of many people, but also the trust in the Federal Republic of Germany’s sustainable education and integration policy.
