Good news for the energy transition: With the opening of the Wilfersdorf wind farm (Lower Austria), a further step towards the country’s energy independence was taken. In a cooperation project between the two energy transition companies Windkraft Simonsfeld and ImWind, the existing wind farm was expanded to include five turbines from the German manufacturer Nordex. The new wind farm will produce almost 72.5 million kWh of green electricity annually, meeting the average electricity needs of over 19,000 households. The total investment amounted to more than 50 million euros.
After almost a year of construction, the construction of the wind farm’s five turbines was completed on schedule in October. Now the new wind farm was built by Markus Winter, CTO Windkraft Simonsfeld, Georg Waldner, CEO ImWind and Josef Tatzber, Mayor Wilfersdorf, ceremoniously opened.
Long-term partnership will be continued
“I am particularly pleased about the opening of the wind farm because it means we are continuing our more than 20-year successful partnership with the market town of Wilfersdorf. The regional expansion of renewable energy is more urgent than ever given the weather extremes of the last few months – from heat records to catastrophic floods – and the man-made climate crisis is becoming more and more noticeable regionally for all of us. We are therefore investing every euro in the energy transition and in a sustainable, secure energy supply. “This can only be achieved in close coordination with the population, communities and politicians – and this wind farm is an absolute showcase project,” affirms Markus Winter, CTO of Windkraft Simonsfeld.
Georg Waldner, CEO ImWindadds: “The completion of the Wilfersdorf wind farm is an impressive example of how successful partnerships concretely advance the energy transition. With every new wind turbine, we not only create green electricity, but also make an important contribution to regional value creation and climate protection. It is our responsibility to consistently continue on this path – for the benefit of our environment and future generations.”
High acceptance among citizens
“The new wind farm in Wilfersdorf is now the fourth expansion. The implementation of this project with Windkraft Simonsfeld and ImWind worked excellently, a collaboration on equal terms,” says Josef Tatzber, mayor of Wilfersdorf.
Save the date: Windfest am 16. Mai 2025 in Wilfersdorf
There will be a big wind festival in the Wilfersdorf wind farm on May 16, 2025 – all interested parties and wind power enthusiasts are warmly invited to attend.
