Thursday, November 21, 2024, 10:00 a.m., Cafe Landtmann, “Landtmannsaal” 1010 Vienna University ring 4, (corner of Löwelstraße 22)
In 1984, the efforts of tens of thousands of committed citizens – together with effective legal remedies – prevented the Hainburg Danube power plant from being built and set the course for the Donauauen National Park, which was founded twelve years later. Many environmental, nature conservation and democratic policy challenges remain. This is demonstrated by the “Hainburg Declaration”, which was launched with the collaboration of Freda Meissner-Blau. 40 years after Hainburg, its remaining five proponents will present in a press conference what “Hainburg” and the Hainburg Declaration mean today. The focus is particularly on the tension between climate policy and energy transition on the one hand, renaturation and new protected areas (national parks) on the other, as well as the treatment of land areas and rivers.
Attend the press conference:
- Dr. Gerhard Heilingbrunner (1984 Au activist and representative of the Hainburg referendum, today Forest Board of Trustees and honorary president of the environmental umbrella organization)
- Doris Holler-Bruckner (1984 Au activist from Orth an der Donaus, today Federal Association for Sustainable Mobility, oekonews)
- Günter Schobesberger (1984 meeting gazette and key co-organizer of the “Aubetzung” in Stoppenreuth, long-time environmental activist, now living in Hainburg)
- University Prof. Dr. Bernd Lötsch (1984 floodplain activist, first national park planner, emeritus director of the Natural History Museum)
- Wolfgang Rehm (1984 Au activist from Marchegg, today environmental organization VIRUS)
We look forward to welcoming you to this press conference.
