Against the backdrop of the first government program at state level, which is based on the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a major cooperation event between the civil society platform SDG Watch Austria, the state of Carinthia and many other partners will take place for the first time in the BIOS National Park Center Mallnitz instead.
The aim of the organizers is to support the exchange between politics, administration, science, business and civil society. The different workshops and discussions are intended to show what sustainability encompasses and why it is essential to think social, environmental and economic issues together.
„The special thing about the SDG Dialogue Forum Carinthia is that a wide range of non-profit organizations, representatives of administration at federal and state level, researchers and young people were directly involved in the design of the program. Sustainable development can only be achieved through joint discussions and cross-sectoral measures
“, explains Bernhard Zlanabitnig, steering group member of the SDG Watch Austria platform, which advocates for well-thought-out sustainability policies throughout Austria.
The SDG Dialogue Forum Carinthia deals with topics such as child poverty, sustainable procurement, conflict resolution concepts relating to climate and environmental issues, the world of work of the future from the perspective of young people, education and making global connections tangible, and much more. The state governments also focus on cooperation between the federal and state governments. and Federal Administration and the Ban Ki-moon Center for Global Citizens set new accents in a joint program item in the afternoon.
„Looking beyond national borders is also central to sustainable development, which is why perspectives from the Global South are given particular importance at the SDG Dialogue Forum Carinthia
“, adds Lukas Wank, member of the SDG Watch Austria steering group. The program offers, among other things, insights into water use conflicts in Ethiopia, makes the topic of “supply chains” tangible using the example of the journey of the cocoa bean and puts Carinthia’s development cooperation and educational offerings in a global context.
Another highlight of the event will be a panel discussion with Mr. Governor Peter Kaiser, Bettina Zangl-Jagiello (Caritas Carinthia), Lena Rauter (CliMates) and Too much sunshine (independent expert for transformative education) will take up the results of the morning workshops and discuss concrete steps for Carinthia and Austria.
Last but not least, all participants are invited to join in the discussions and exchange ideas on site. A live stream with subtitles is available for selected parts of the event.
