Today, Saturday, Mayor Michael Ludwig and members of the federal government commemorated the victims of the Vienna Night of Terror four years ago. On November 2, 2020, an IS sympathizer killed four people and injured more than 20, some seriously, in downtown Vienna. The memorial event took place with a wreath-laying ceremony at Desider-Friedmann-Platz.
“Most Viennese still remember exactly where they were that evening four years ago. The night of November 2nd, 2020 deeply shook our city. But Vienna will not allow itself to be brought to its knees by terrorism. In our city, people stick together – hate and violence have no place here! November 2nd reminds us to always put what we have in common before what divides us,” emphasized Mayor Ludwig. “Our thoughts today, as then, are with the victims and their survivors.”
City Councilor Peter Hacker, Federal Chancellor Karl Nehammer and Interior Minister Gerhard Karner also took part in the wreath-laying ceremony in downtown Vienna. (End) jaz
