From Innsbruck to Chamonix: Nature lovers take stock of Alpinkader 4.0

Vienna/Innsbruck (OTS) –

Six young alpinists, three training modules and a common goal: the alpine climbing module was the culmination of this year’s Naturfreunde Alpinkader training at the end of August. In 2025, the women’s team is looking forward to ice climbing and the final expedition, and the men’s alpine squad is also starting.

Elena Prem, Elisabeth Mayr, Hannah Rabl, Jana Scheiring, Sabrina Unger and Elena Barbist: These six young alpinists impressed with their alpinistic skills in the selection process at the beginning of the year and form the women’s team of the Naturfreunde Alpinkader 4.0.

“The focus of the Alpinkader is on enjoying shared experiences on the mountain,” says Alpinkader trainer and mountain guide Babsi Vigl. There have been quite a few of these shared experiences in the last six months. Since April, the six young women and their instructor have been able to improve their skills in sport climbing, mountaineering and alpine climbing and learn from each other.

After the alpine squad kick-off with the sport climbing module in Innsbruck and Bürs, the participants went to Chamonix in July for the “High Alpine Tour Update”. After 20 pitches in the finest Chamonix granite, the three rope teams found a bivouac band of their dreams on the Aiguille du Moine south ridge. It wasn’t just there that instructor Babsi Vigl gave them tips and tricks from her life as a professional alpinist. In addition to climbing and abseiling, glacier crevasse rescue was also on the program.

“I have a lot of friends with the Alpinkader 4.0. The women’s Alpinkader was a project close to my heart. I thought it would be cool, but to be honest it’s even better than I imagined,” sums up instructor Babsi Vigl. “The dynamic in the group is simply unique, how the participants treat each other and how everyone gets involved.”

The highlight for the women’s team in 2025 is the big final expedition. Günter Abraham, Managing Director of Naturfreunde Österreich: “Sustainability is very important to us in all areas and therefore also for the alpine squad. The final expedition will therefore be carried out as environmentally friendly as possible and in a location that can be reached without a plane.” The men’s alpine squad will also start in 2025.

The Alpinkader 4.0 is carried out with the support of Wiener Städtische Versicherung AG, Mountain Equipment, Berg-freunde.at, Scarpa and Beal.
