“The tasks of a department head are diverse: they work directly with guests, take on management tasks and act as role models for their employees,” says ÖHV campus manager Brigitta Brunner, BA, at the closing ceremony of the 32nd AKA in the Hotel Ebner’s Waldhof at the lake in Fuschl. It is often even more challenging to combine these tasks. “Department managers hold key positions in the company and have to take on many roles at the same time. Without the right know-how, this usually works rather poorly than well. That’s exactly why the AKA exists,” explains course leader Julia Pfeiffer, MA.
Wide range of content, network for life
The training itself is very varied. The wide range of learning content extends from team building, active sales, cost of goods calculation, employee deployment planning to complaint management, labor law and employee leadership. The colorful mix of participants from all areas of the hotel industry, such as Michael Balthasar Seiwald, AKA spokesman, confirmed on behalf of all graduates, has proven itself: “I see the AKA as a great opportunity to reflect together and develop our leadership skills. You learn how important it is to grow from experience and get the most important tools to successfully manage our employees.” The exchange between colleagues is also very central, laying the foundation for lifelong friendships and a network in the industry.
