The CIO Congress runs from Sunday to Tuesday (October 20-22). At Austria’s leading IT event (this year with the sustainable motto ONE), important personalities and experts from IT and digitalization come together to discuss the latest trends and innovations in the industry and find solutions to current challenges. At this largest CIO congress to date, LSZ managing directors were able to ElmarRodler and CIO Community Manager Martina Kruber Welcoming around 450 IT decision-makers who will spend 2 ½ days exchanging ideas about future topics and learning from each other. The first evening brought the first highlight: the pitches and the awarding of the 2nd Green Business Award.
These are successful projects that show how digitalization is used to take social, ecological and economic aspects of sustainable business into account. Five finalists presented live pitches to the expert jury and the audience vote.
First prize went to Leyrer+Graf Baugesellschaft mbH for digital construction documentation and for more sustainability on the construction site, which can be used for applications such as CO2 calculation and to promote the circular economy. Green Construction Manager David Rott and Head of IT Michael Hochhold accepted the main prize.
APG AustrianPowerGrid achieved second place with real-time detection of rotor blade icing for greater security of supply. The cheese manufacturer Gebrüder WOERLE achieved third prize for digital maps to protect insect biodiversity.
The other projects in the final were: ÖBB (Easier on the road with SimplyGo!) and AVL DiTEST with a “digital device file” for exhaust gas measurement.
The expert jury consisted of Werner Aumayr from last year’s winner AMAG, Sustainista managing director Stefan Bauer, Sascha Thöny (Fraunhofer Austria), and Christine Wahlmüller-Schiller from the Austrian Institute of Technology.
Award initiator Martina Kruber explained: “Thank you for the great projects and congratulations to the award winners! We will of course continue this prize in 2025, this is LSZ’s contribution to sustainable business. At our event for decision-makers in IT, we were once again able to show what creativity exists in companies.” Submissions are possible again from the beginning of April.
The new successful formats introduced last year at the CIO Congress, such as the “Female Experts on Stage”, Demo Zone as well as “Deep Dive” and fuck-up sessions for a better error culture, were continued and expanded.
The next LSZ conferences with an IT focus are “Future CIO & CISO Connections” on November 6th in Hamburg, the CIO Congress West from November 20th-21st. November in Telfs and the “AI Challenge Accepted Summit” on November 26th in Vienna. The next Green Business Disruption Summit will take place March 31st – 1st.
