“100 Years – Radio – The Show” became the most attended birthday party in the country yesterday, Friday, October 18, 2024, at 8:15 p.m. on ORF 2. Up to 606,000 viewers did not want to miss the emotional climax of the multimedia ORF program to mark the brilliant anniversary of the popular medium. An average of 510,000 people, with a market share of 22 percent, took part in the rousing musical journey through ten decades of radio history with the knowledgeable and humorous moderation duo Teresa Vogl and Michael Ostrowski. Under the direction of Christian Kolonovits, the ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna played, showing the enormous range of its repertoire from operetta, film music and hit adaptations to swing numbers and milestones from Austropop, classical and contemporary music. On stage were greats like Marianne Mendt, Rainhard Fendrich, Wolfgang Ambros, Christina Stürmer, Seiler & Speer, Drew Sarich, Eva Klampfer alias Lylit, Daniel Fehlhard, Sigrid Hauser and Thomas Gansch.
“100 Years of Radio – The Show” as well as a supplementary look behind the scenes of the large-scale production – “100 Years of Radio – Backstage” – are available on ORF ON, as are other ORF-focused anniversary programs that have been broadcast so far. This will conclude on October 21st at 11:15 p.m. on ORF 2 with the “kulturMontag” documentary “Waves of Time – 100 Years of Radio in Austria”. Heidelinde Neuburger-Dumancic’s film delves into the fascinating world of a medium that not only accompanies history, but also actively shapes it.
