Hisense Group Chairman Jia Shaoqian announced the company’s new Dual Carbon Pledge at the Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) Global Leaders Conference 2024 in Shanghai yesterday and outlined Hisense’s recent initiatives to make green development a key pillar in “building a century-old Hisense”.
The Hisense Dual Carbon Pledge requires the company to achieve carbon peaking in its operations by 2026 at the latest and carbon neutrality in its operations by 2050 at the latest, while integrating low-carbon concepts into all aspects of corporate governance and operational practices.
“Hisense has embraced the principle of long-termism and implements ESG practices as part of our ‘Comprehensive Layout’ and ‘Global Action’ strategies, which are integral to the company’s commitment to ESG development,” said Mr. Jia . “The company has established a global network of regional ‘5+1’ centers for research, production and sales. This is in line with the principle of ‘Local for Local’ to contribute to and serve local communities to reduce logistics costs and energy consumption.”
Unveiling its first carbon neutrality white paper, Hisense’s “Hi GREEN” carbon neutrality action plan focuses on three key areas to support the company’s low-carbon transition strategy: maximizing energy efficiency, accelerating the development of a low-carbon supply chain and the iteration and optimization of low-carbon products and services.
Hisense has built a global “lighthouse factory”, three carbon-free factories and 14 Chinese green factories at the national level. Compared to 2023, Hisense aims to reduce its carbon emission intensity by 40% by 2030. By 2025, the company plans to have over 2,400 suppliers, which represent approximately 50% of its total suppliers, into its carbon emissions management system. In addition, Hisense will encourage 40% of its suppliers to set themselves carbon emission reduction targets.
Hisense’s high-quality, energy-efficient and high-quality home appliances have won the trust of users worldwide. Hisense will continue to research and develop innovative green technologies to bring a better life to millions of households worldwide.
