The City of Vienna – Road Administration and Road Construction will begin on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, with redesign work, greening and construction of a cycling facility in Zinnergasse between Alberner Hafenzufahrtsstraße and Freudenauer Hafenbrücke in the 11th district.
Details
In Zinnergasse from the entrance to and along the Vienna Canal property, an approximately 2 meter wide and 180 meter long, structurally separated two-way cycle path will be built, which will connect to the existing cycle infrastructure in the Freudenauer Hafenbrücke area. At the same time, an approximately 2.60 meter wide sidewalk will be created, which will be structurally separated from the roadway by a newly created 2 meter wide green strip. In order to make it more attractive and improve the microclimate, a total of 16 new trees, which are equipped with automatic irrigation, will be planted in the new green strip by December 2024.
Traffic measures
Traffic is alternately routed through the respective construction area using a temporary traffic light system. The two “Freudenauer Hafenbrücke” bus stops will be temporarily relocated to the Albern harbor access road during construction. Cycling and walking traffic will be maintained.

Vienna’s big cycle path offensive is in full swing
The big Vienna cycle path offensive is still in full swing! The Progress Coalition will invest at least 100 million euros in expanding the cycle path infrastructure in the city of two million by 2025 and will add around 20 kilometers per year in the main cycle network alone. In 2023, a record sum of 35 million euros was invested, plus measures at district level. The intensive efforts are paying off: the number of cyclists is constantly increasing. The proportion of journeys made by bike rose to 10% last year (in 2019 it was still 7%), as the 2023 modal split survey shows. The counting points also show a clear picture: the number of cyclists rose from 9 million to almost 12 million from 2020 to 2023.
