The opening of the four-group kindergarten in Ferdinand Freiligrath-Gasse in Deutsch-Wagram took place on Monday. To date, the municipality has operated a total of 20 kindergarten groups at eight locations in accordance with the Lower Austrian Kindergarten Act. “Thank you to Mayor Ulla Mühl-Hittinger and her team from politics and administration for investing in the municipality as a strong partner of the state of Lower Austria in the expansion of child care and thus supporting the families in Deutsch-Wagram,” said family regional councilor Christiane Teschl-Hofmeister . The state of Lower Austria is supporting the construction with interest subsidies amounting to over one million euros. For the “blue-yellow childcare offensive”, the state of Lower Austria and its municipalities are investing a total of 750 million euros in addition to expanding childcare by 2027.
In the recently published monitoring report of the statistics on elementary education 2023/24 by Statistics Austria, the successes of the blue-yellow childcare offensive are also visible in numbers. When it comes to attendance rates for children under 3, Lower Austria is 36.3%, above the Austrian average of 34.9% and, for the first time, above the Barcelona target of 33%. When it comes to attendance rates for 3-5 year olds, Lower Austria is also above the Barcelona target of 96% and once again leads the federal state ranking with 98.3%. If you look at the attendance rates by individual year, Lower Austria leads the federal state comparison with the highest care rates in the categories of 2- (78.7%), 3- (97.2%) and 4-year-olds (99.0%). “These figures underline the efforts of the state of Lower Austria and its municipalities to ensure a good network of childcare options throughout the country,” says family regional councilor Christiane Teschl-Hofmeister. 250 new groups went into operation nationwide in September, and a total of around 615 groups are planned by 2027.
