Parliamentary week from October 7th to 11th, 2024

The beginning of next week will mark the commemoration of the Hamas terrorist attack in Israel a year ago. The topic of anti-Semitism is also the focus of a study presentation on Thursday. National Council President Wolfgang Sobotka travels to Berlin and Madrid. Two prizes will also be awarded in Parliament.

It is the first anniversary of the Hamas terrorist attack in Israel. To mark the occasion, Parliament will be illuminated in the colors of the Israeli flag.

In the afternoon, National Council President Wolfgang Sobotka travels to Berlin. There he takes part in commemorative events marking the anniversary of the Hamas terrorist attack in Israel. During his visit until October 8th, Sobotka will also meet with Bundestag President Bärbel Bas, among others.

10 a.m.: The traveling exhibition will be in Wels Parliament on Tour welcomed, which will stop there from October 5th to 20th. Speakers include Federal Council President Franz Ebner, the mayor of Wels Andreas Rabl, the district governor of Wels-Land Elisabeth Schwetz and the President of the Upper Austrian State Parliament Max Hiegelsberger. The interactive exhibition is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and admission is free. (Wels, Minoritenplatz)

National Council President Wolfgang Sobotka will be in Madrid until October 9th, where he will meet, among others, with Congress President Francina Armengol and First Deputy Senate President Javier Maroto Aranzábal for talks.

Wednesday, October 9, 2024

6:00 p.m.: The Austrian Senior Citizens’ Council and the Austrian Journalists Club are presenting the “a·g·e Award” in parliament for the third time. The award goes to projects and initiatives in the world of work and society, as well as media contributions that create public awareness of the topic of aging and address the positive coexistence of generations. 10 a.m.: National Council President Wolfgang Sobotka presents the results of a “snapshot study” on anti-Semitism among young people at a press conference. Because the data from the last anti-Semitism study was collected in autumn 2022, i.e. before Hamas’ terrorist attack on Israel, people between the ages of 16 and 27 were surveyed again in summer 2024. The results will now be presented by the President of the National Council together with IFES managing director and study author Eva Zeglovits and project coordinator Thomas Stern.
