At this new festival you will explore the topic of tolerance – from different directions, in unique venues.
From one crisis to the next
Democracies are at a turning point. The gaps in society are getting bigger and bigger. In a world that is increasingly characterized by superficial opinions, rapid developments and a flood of information, the Dachstein Dialogues offer an alternative. This is about pausing, thinking and entering into dialogue. Respectful and tolerant. The Dachstein Dialogues invite you to address the big questions of our time, gain new perspectives and search for answers together.
Space for meeting and orientation
Visitors to the 3-day cultural festival have the opportunity to meet renowned personalities, get to know their world of thought and be part of a larger discourse. The Dachstein Dialogues create space for encounters that have an impact beyond the moment and can inspire in the long term. The festival is an invitation to everyone who feels that it is not enough to present simple solutions, but that real change begins with understanding and exchange.
Top-class program
Especially at a time when many people long for orientation and meaning, the Dachstein Dialogues program offers a platform to support this search – through art, literature, science and music. And the whole thing takes place in unique and personal settings, such as fragrant barns, historic-looking farmhouses, or at the summit of the Dachstein border mountain.
The special highlights include:
Michael Köhlmeier: The renowned writer will open the festival in the Evangelical Church of Ramsau with remarks on the topic “Tolerance as a historical challenge”.
Bravour Schrammeln & Duo Haertel washer: One of the best ensembles of Austrian contemporary music plays together with the duo for traditional dance music from Austrian sources on the themes of tolerance and conflict at the new mountain station of the Dachstein Gletscherbahn.
Michael Ignatieff: You can expect a fiery appeal for tolerance in times of war and polarization from the internationally recognized political scientist – in the barn of the Ramsauer Schweigerhof.
Philipp Blom: Historian and essayist Philipp Blom examines the question of whether we need a new enlightenment in the Filzmooser Mützenhalle.
Benjamin Schmid and Ariane Haering: The world-famous violinist Benjamin creates a musical “arc of tolerance” together with the renowned pianist Ariane Haering in the Evangelical Church of Ramsau.
Tolerance festival on the day of the National Council election
“Especially in view of the increasing political polarization, it is important to create and keep open spaces for encounters and respectful discussion. We also see the coincidence that allows the Dachstein Dialogues and the National Council election to coincide as an opportunity to counteract polarization and the formation of ghettos of opinion and to work with passion and joy for an open, democratic society in which culture and personal exchange are part of it contribute to shaping a good future together.”
Philipp Blom, Steward
