Vienna Social Fund (FSW) heralds the 14th month of senior citizens

With over 100 events, “Seniors’ Month” offers opportunities for encounters, exercise and inspiration for the 14th time. Numerous guests celebrated the start of Senior Citizens’ Month on September 27th in the Kursalon Hübner with music and dance, information and entertainment. Also present were City Councilor for Social Affairs Peter Hacker, FSW managing director Susanne Winkler as well as the senior representative for the city of Vienna and head of the staff office for senior citizens in the FSW Sabine Hofer-Gruber.

“It’s not for nothing that Vienna is considered the most livable city in the world. Regardless of age, as we see once again in Senior Citizens’ Month, quality of life is very important in our city. I am pleased that older people in Vienna will be offered such an extensive program in October, tailored to their realities of life – and free of charge. In Vienna we leave no one behind, as the festive start showed. I hope that we succeed in making some people curious about the many possibilities that our city offers.”says City Councilor Peter Hacker, summing up the seniors’ festival.

Experience together: program with 100 events in October

The program is colorful again this year: with neighborhood tours, museum tours, cross-generational formats, exercise courses, digitalization workshops, educational, dance and music events as well as neighborhood activities, there is something for everyone. From laughter yoga to gardening, handicrafts and baking in the Austrian-Turkish bakery to the final Halloween party, you can experience and get to know Vienna in a new way from October 1st to 31st.

“Together with numerous partner organizations, we have managed to put together a well-filled calendar of events. There have never been so many program items in Seniors’ Month. In addition, all events are free of charge. With this initiative, which is unique in Vienna, Viennese 60+ can enjoy an active, informative and entertaining October.”emphasizes Sabine Hofer-Gruber, senior representative for the city of Vienna.

“Social participation, regardless of age – Senior Citizens’ Month achieves exactly that. Older people can try out new things and choose from over 100 events. With Senior Citizens’ Month, the FSW is also sending a clear message against loneliness in old age; October invites people to get together. It’s not just Seniors’ Month that offers diversity, we as FSW also offer a wide range of services for a wide range of needs: whether everyday support, day centers, shared apartments or care – it is important to the FSW together with its partner organizations that Viennese seniors receive exactly the support they need that they need”explains FSW managing director Susanne Winkler.

Participation and experience in old age

Since the initiative was launched in 2011, Senior Citizens’ Month has enjoyed great popularity. This year too, the first events were fully booked after just two hours. The “Vienna for Seniors” team at the Vienna Social Fund (FSW) organizes a varied, free program together with numerous partner organizations. The aim of the initiative is to bring the participating organizers closer to the diverse target group of Viennese seniors and to promote active participation, exchange and quality of life for seniors.

The entire program is available online seniorinnen.wien. Registration is required for the majority of events.
