Argentinierstrasse in the 4th district is currently being converted into a bicycle street based on the Dutch model. In addition, extensive greening and traffic calming measures are being implemented.
Traffic measures from August 30th until December 8th, 2024
Argentinierstrasse is closed to private traffic from Taubstummengasse to Gußhausstrasse – with the exception of access to the approved parking spaces.
In Plößlgasse, the one-way route in the section from Argentinierstrasse to and towards Schmöllergasse will be reversed during construction. For this purpose, the one-way lane in Plößlgasse between Prinz-Eugen-Straße and Schmöllergasse will be abolished.
Argentinierstrasse between Theresianumgasse and Plößlgasse also remains closed to private traffic – with the exception of access to the approved parking spaces. The existing diversions will remain in place until December 2024.
The Schwindgasse and Wohllebengasse will be formed as dead ends at the junction with Argentinierstrasse and the one-way route will be abolished in each case.

Vienna’s big cycle path offensive is in full swing
The big Vienna cycle path offensive is in full swing! The Progress Coalition will invest at least 100 million euros in expanding the cycle path infrastructure in the city of two million by 2025 and will add around 20 kilometers per year in the main cycle network alone. In 2023, a record sum of 35 million euros was invested, plus measures at district level. The intensive efforts are paying off: the number of cyclists is constantly increasing. The proportion of journeys made by bike rose to 10% last year (in 2019 it was 7%), as the 2023 modal split survey shows. The counting points also show a clear picture: the number of cyclists rose from 9 million to almost 12 million from 2020 to 2023.
