One of the coolest summers of our future has ended with a flood disaster. Climate change threatens our social fabric, it threatens our jobs and our quality of life, it threatens democratic and social gains for which the unions have fought for decades. As trade unionists, we do not stand on the sidelines of the global climate strike and watch – climate protection is our job. Because a just society without climate justice is unthinkable!
We take to the streets
- for a future worth living and food security for the generations that follow us,
- for social justice,
- for a democratic Austria by supporting environmentally conscious education and new forms of labor market and democratic political participation.
- for the expansion of a climate-friendly infrastructure and for the necessary energy transition,
- because public transport and social housing are just as much a part of our tasks as public sector employees, as are education, science and research, care and health care, culture and administration.
Trade unions have always been the driving force when it comes to social change. Today we must be part of the force that is saving the planet.
