Asia’s first offshore wind turbines are being delivered to further boost exploration of deep-sea energy coupling
Shanghai (OTS) –

SHANGHAI, 21. Aug. 2024 /PRNewswire/ – Shanghai Electric (SEHK:2727, SSE:601727), subsidiary of Shanghai Electric Wind Power Group, recently took delivery of Asia’s first offshore wind power service and operation vessels (SOVs), Zhizhen 100 and Zhicheng 60, in Qidong, Jiangsu Province. The motherships built by Zhenhua Heavy Industries can carry out continuous operation and maintenance work in deep-water and deep-sea wind farms, largely eliminating the problems of sea transport vessels currently in use in China. These include short time windows, inability to conduct continuous operations, frequent round trips, low efficiency and poor functioning in severe sea conditions.

Liu Xiangnan, Vice President der Shanghai Electric Wind Power Groupcommented: “These two offshore wind power service and operation vessels integrate efficient operation and maintenance, green and intelligent operation and maintenance, and are important carriers for the pioneering structure of deep-sea electric wind power, supporting the high-quality development of China’s offshore “We will advance wind power operations and maintenance capabilities.”

The specifications of Zhizhen 100 and Zhicheng 60 are different:

  • The Zhizhen 100 has an overall length of 93.4 meters, a width of 18 meters, a depth of 7.6 meters and a planned service speed of 12.3 knots;
  • The Zhicheng 60 has an overall length of 72.76 meters, a beam of 17.5 meters, a depth of 7 meters and a planned service speed of 12 knots.

The two SOVs delivered are designed for efficient, sustainable, intelligent and safe maintenance. They are both equipped with the DP2 dynamic positioning system, have a large cargo space capable of storing heavy wind turbine spare parts, and have a self-sufficient capacity of over 30 days.

  • The Zhizhen 100 and Zhicheng 60 are equipped with an active wave compensation pier, which mitigates wave-induced displacement of the ship’s hull and enables efficient personnel and spare parts transfer as well as maintenance of the wind farm even in rough seas.
  • They feature a folding arm offshore crane, a work boat, a boarding frame and an aluminum alloy helicopter platform.
  • They are powered by a diesel-electric and lithium battery hybrid system with full electric propulsion and DC busbar distribution and are certified as hybrid vessels and green vessels by the China Classification Society (CCS).
  • An advanced, intelligent operating system improves maintenance efficiency and reduces labor intensity, expanding the operating window.

“As a pioneer, leader and builder of China’s offshore wind energy, Shanghai Electric Wind Power Group has been deeply involved in the development and growth of China’s offshore wind energy, and actively responded to the needs of China’s offshore wind energy to expand in the deep sea to develop,” said Liu.
