The state of Lower Austria supports TV documentary “Bertha & Alfred – The Price of Peace”

Lower Austria is increasingly establishing itself as a popular filming location. One of the productions that is currently being filmed at various locations in Lower Austria is the TV documentary “Bertha & Alfred – The Price of Peace”, in which Lower Austria not only serves as the setting, but also stages some of the historical events depicted .

The documentary, made by the production company RANFILM, tells the moving story of the friendship between Alfred Nobel and Bertha von Suttner and their shared pursuit of peace.

Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner emphasizes the importance of the TV documentary for Lower Austria: “This production not only strengthens our regional film industry, but also the reputation of Lower Austria as an important filming location. In addition, through the depiction of this special friendship and the choice of locations, it illustrates the historical and cultural significance of Lower Austria.”

On the initiative of the governor, the Lower Austrian state government has decided to support the production of the TV documentary “Bertha & Alfred – The Price of Peace” in the amount of 50,000 euros.

A significant part of the filming takes place in Lower Austria, including historical locations such as Harmannsdorf Castle, Laxenburg Castle, Eckartsau Castle and the health resort of Semmering. These places not only offer an authentic setting, but also have a deep historical connection to the protagonists, especially to Bertha von Suttner, who spent much of her life at Harmannsdorf Castle.

In addition to the filming in Lower Austria, which covers 13 of the 15 days of filming, the film team is also accommodated and fed in the region during the production phase, which provides additional economic stimulus.

The TV documentary will be broadcast as part of the Universum History series at prime time on ORF 2 as well as on the ARTE and SVT channels. This reaches a wide audience in Austria and internationally. Due to the planned worldwide distribution, the film will be shown far beyond the country’s borders and will contribute to Lower Austria’s international reputation.

Production is scheduled to be completed by December 2024, with completion and broadcast scheduled for June 2025.

A premiere in Lower Austria is also planned to highlight the region’s importance as a location for filming and history.
