Banksy stolen: The artwork on the body

Is stealing a Banksy like stealing a Caravaggio? After all, works by the British street artist have fetched millions at auction. At the same time, it is art that was often attached to abandoned buildings and, strictly speaking, was produced illegally. At first glance it doesn’t seem to belong to anyone.

That’s probably why several masked thieves thought they wouldn’t take too much risk by stealing a satellite dish designed by Banksy. Just hours after the anonymous art star verified a wolf outline sprayed on the antenna as his work on Thursday, they dismantled the object from the roof of a London shop and took it with them. In broad daylight, under observation of passers-by – an audacity that you can apparently get away with.

Just: What do you do with a stolen Banksy? You hang it over yourselfs bed and impresses lovers with it? Or are you trying to sell it on the black market? And if the latter, how do you prove its authenticity? Perhaps one of the thieves, pictured here, could show his tattoos to potential buyers. In the photos that are now going around the world, the unmistakable body jewelry is clearly visible. Only Scotland Yard should not be aware of this trick.lku
