No Christmas break for volunteer fire departments in Lower Austria

LH deputy Pernkopf and state fire brigade commander Dietmar Fahrafellner thank their comrades

St. Pölten (OTS) A large number of members of Lower Austria’s volunteer fire brigades are currently on permanent duty. A storm has had our state firmly in its grip since Thursday evening, shortening the run-up to Christmas for our volunteers. According to weather forecasts, this will last for the next few days, but nevertheless the quiet time of the year begins these days. “Thank you to the many comrades who are there for the safety of their compatriots during these hours and also during the Christmas holidays. All alarm centers are manned around the clock so that help can be dispatched as quickly as possible in the event of an emergency,” state fire brigade commander Dietmar Faharfellner and LH deputy Stephan Pernkopf announce.

Fahrafellner explains: “No matter whether there is storm damage, the Christmas tree is on fire or a fire department gets lost, we will be there – there is no break for the fire department even on Christmas Eve or at midnight on New Year’s Eve.” However, both appeal to the population to be careful and to act with common sense: “Avoid unnecessary dangers outdoors, do not leave candles burning unattended and, especially on New Year’s Eve, be careful when handling pyrotechnics and pay attention to the applicable regulations.”

“The service to society that our Lower Austrian fire brigades provide every year is not a given, especially on family holidays such as Christmas and New Year’s Eve,” emphasizes LH deputy Stephan Pernkopf and continues: “Nobody wants to find themselves in an emergency – especially at a time when which should be determined by happiness and joy. Knowing that we can all still rely on our Florianis around the clock is priceless.”
