“Those who work must not be stupid: an end to Vienna’s social benefits paradise! It is unbearable when, at the end of the day, workers have less than recently arrived refugees who have not paid a single euro into our social system for a single day. Earning 5,000 euros net or more without having worked a single day is simply grotesque and should be stopped today rather than tomorrow. Anyone who defends a system that gives welfare recipients more money than those who work undermines people’s trust in the welfare state. This playing with fire must end immediately!” says the chairman of the People’s Party in the National Council, August Wöginger, about the reports on social benefits in Vienna.
That is why, as stipulated in our Chancellor’s Austrian plan, we are only allowed to grant full social benefits from the fifth year of residence in Austria. It cannot be that our good social network makes us the target of those who are specifically looking for a good social system instead of good job prospects. We need new workers, not new long-term social welfare recipients,” concluded Wöginger.
