Strasbourg (ots) The ARTE broadcast series “TRACKS East” will be part of the satellite offering “TV Swoboda” (Russian for “freedom”) from August 2024. The Russian-language offer brings together Russian exile media and independent channels that are broadcast by the French operator Eutelsat and can also be received in the European part of Russia. “TRACKS East” is broadcast as part of the Deutsche Welle (DW) offering on “TV Swoboda” every Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Moscow time. At the start, the programs “Traveling in Times of Crisis” (August 3rd), “Putin’s Revenge” (August 10th) and “The Baltics – The EU’s sore point” (August 17th) will be shown.

The opening program, “Traveling in Times of Crisis,” shows, among other things, how the Ukrainian port city of Mariupol, which was completely destroyed by Russia, is being built up as a new tourist magnet for Russians. In the program “Putin’s Revenge” Russian cultural figures who are also being persecuted by the Kremlin abroad have their say.

The satellite-based channel package “TV Swoboda” was launched by Reporters Without Borders (RSF) and officially opened broadcasting operations on March 5, 2024 with an event in the European Parliament. DW broadcasts parts of its Russian-language programs there, such as the daily news program “DW Novosti”. She is now also including the ARTE series “TRACKS East” in her offering. In addition to DW, 24 other media companies and journalists supply programs to “TV Swoboda” – including exile media such as “Echo” and “Novaya Gazeta Europe”.

Since June 2022, “Tracks East” has been giving young creatives, artists and influencers from Ukraine, Russia and Eastern Europe a voice: they tell what the “turning point” of the Russian war of aggression means for them and their work. The series was nominated for the German Television Prize and the Grimme Prize. A Russian-language edition has already been successfully published on the YouTube channel “DW Reportaschi” (“Reportages”) in cooperation with Deutsche Welle.
