Dacapo of the new lake stage production on August 31st on 3sat
Vienna (OTS) – After the ceremonial opening act of the 78th Bregenz Festival yesterday, July 17th, 2024, the next “ORF Cultural Summer” highlight from Vorarlberg is on the program tomorrow, Friday, July 19th, when ORF 2 and ORF ON live -delayed at 9:20 p.m. more than 200 years after the premiere and broadcast for the first time in the history of the festival “Der Freischütz” from the lake stage on Lake Constance. 3sat will show a Dacapo of Carl Maria von Weber’s successful opera on Saturday, August 31st at 8:15 p.m. Henning Kasten is responsible for the ORF picture direction, and ORF presenter Teresa Vogl will host the evening.
“Hit the mark,” Carl Maria von Weber happily wrote to his librettist Friedrich Kind after the premiere of their joint opera. With its emotionally charged and gripping music, “Der Freischütz” would soon become the epitome of German romantic opera. Carl Maria von Weber’s “Der Freischütz” takes you deep into romantic worlds, with a hunter’s choir and maiden wreath, forest and wolf gorge as well as dark forces. The opera takes place in an inhospitable village in Germany shortly after the Thirty Years’ War:
The young clerk Max loves Agathe, the daughter of the hereditary forester Kuno. In order for Max to marry her, the untrained shooter has to submit to an archaic custom and complete a test shot – an impossible challenge for him. In this hopeless situation, Max makes a pact with the devil.
The romantic opera classic is staged by Philipp Stölzl, who this year is transforming the lake stage into a ghostly winter landscape in a dual role as director and set designer. He also worked intensively on the text, modernizing the spoken dialogues and adapting them to today’s conditions. The Italian Enrique Mazzola, Conductor in Residence, will take over the musical direction. After the success of Giuseppe Verdi’s “Rigoletto” the two are now working together again in Bregenz.
Accompanying the opera broadcast, ORF 2 and ORF ON will show ORF Vorarlberg’s “Bregenz Festival Magazine” tomorrow, July 19th, at 6:30 p.m. and ORF III on Sunday, July 21st, at 9:35 a.m. “Der Freischütz – Festival Fever on Lake Constance” can be seen on ORF 2 and ORF ON on Sunday, July 28th at 4:30 p.m., when the current lake stage production is also the focus of a new “Experience Austria” edition.
