On July 17th from 10:30 p.m. on ORF 2 and on ORF ON
Vienna (OTS) – Heat waves are occurring more and more frequently, they last longer and are constantly getting hotter. The “WELTjournal” will show the report “Heat waves – Europe in climate change” on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at 10:30 p.m. on ORF 2 and on ORF ON. The documentary “Too hot to work – the new fronts of climate change” will follow in “WELTjournal +” at 11:20 p.m.
Heat waves – Europe in climate change
In Europe too, one temperature record is chasing the next. From a meteorological point of view, temperatures of up to 50 degrees are quite possible in cities like Paris or Seville in the future. The “WELTjournal” examines the question of how we can protect ourselves from the heat, what countermeasures are being taken and what adaptation strategies are available in view of the new heat reality. A journey to the hotspots of Europe that highlights the diverse effects of heat on our lives.
Too hot to work – the new frontiers of climate change
Heat waves are particularly dangerous for those who have to work outdoors or in unconditioned spaces. In countries with high temperatures, but also during heat waves in Europe, there is an increased risk of serious health damage and even heat-related deaths when working in agriculture, construction, delivery services and in factories. “WELTjournal +” shows that already disadvantaged employees and workers in poorly paid industries are particularly affected by heat waves. And how climate change and global warming are exacerbating pre-existing inequalities between those who can protect themselves from the heat and those who cannot.
