ÖAMTC: Numerous accidents on the A8 in Upper Austria

Travel is picking up speed

Vienna (OTS) Four accidents within two hours on the A8 (Innkreis Autobahn), traffic jams on the Brenner Pass, waiting times at the borders, unusually small delays on the A10 (Tauern Autobahn), that’s what the traffic situation was like on Saturday morning, the ÖAMTC reported. Meanwhile, traffic heading south steadily picked up speed. There will definitely be one or two traffic jams during the morning.

Accidents in Upper Austria

“The A8 in Upper Austria was the focus of traffic jams for the first time this summer,” explains ÖAMTC traffic expert Marc Römer. “Between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. we received four accident reports:
An accident in the construction site area near Ort im Innkreis resulted in a traffic jam that was around six kilometers long. A short time later, vehicles crashed into each other in the traffic jam, causing the traffic jam to spread far beyond the border onto the German A3. An accident near Pichl near Wels, which was cleared relatively quickly, caused a loss of around an hour. At around 8 a.m., the A8 also had to be closed to the south shortly after the Noitzmühle tunnel near Wels; four vehicles collided here,” reports Römer. At around 10 a.m. the A8 was largely free of traffic jams and accidents.

At around 9.30 a.m. the A1 (West Autobahn) also had to be closed briefly. An accident occurred near Thalgau in the direction of Linz.

Traffic jams on the Brenner route

Also early in the morning there started to be a traffic jam on the A13 (Brenner Autobahn) in Tyrol. Traffic was backed up due to an accident on the Italian side. Initially the truck lane was open to Gries am Brenner, but car traffic was soon also affected. An accident in the Patsch area involving a truck caused a traffic jam that stretched back to the A12 (Inntal Autobahn).

According to the ÖAMTC, journeys through the Wipptal were particularly difficult on Saturday. The B182 (Brenner Straße) had been interrupted in two places since around 7 a.m.: in Steinach due to flooding and in Gries am Brenner closed after a landslide.

Border waiting times

The ÖAMTC recorded longer waiting times on the A11 in front of the Karawanken Tunnel (around 1.5 hours). At Walserberg (A1) and before Suben (A8), travelers lost around 30 minutes.

A10 in Salzburg initially problem-free

“The traffic on the Tauern Autobahn is flowing!”, this good news comes from ÖAMTC traffic jam consultant Florian Thaler. “There was already a lot going on here at night, so the traffic flows were split up over time. At the moment everything is going pretty smoothly. Even in front of the construction site area at Eben, there is only a few minutes of time lost,” says Thaler.

Nevertheless, the club is observing an increase in traffic: “Especially in construction areas, such as on the southern motorway (A2) between Pinkafeld and Hartberg, but also on the Fernpass route (B179), the columns are already quite compact,” says ÖAMTC traffic expert Römer.
