Vienna (OTS) TV culture clash at its best: When embittered university professor Richard Pohl insults the Moroccan Naima with racist comments for being late, he doesn’t expect that scenes of the incident will end up on the Internet and go viral. To make up for it, the cynic now has to coach the new student! Director Sönke Wortmann (“The First Name”) took a seat in the director’s chair and adapted the French comedy hit “The Brilliant Mademoiselle Neila” by Yvan Attal for the German-speaking audience. More about the content of “Contra”:

The cynical law professor Richard Pohl (Christoph Maria Herbst) is known for often making racist comments. When he insults the Moroccan freshman Naima (Nilam Farooq) in the lecture in front of all the other students, videos of the scene end up on the Internet. In order to improve his chances in the impending disciplinary proceedings and to secure his job at the university, there is only one way out – under pressure from his old friend, the university president Alexander Lambrecht (Ernst Stötzner), Pohl begins to coach the student for a nationwide debate competition. Despite her initial dislike for the condescending law professor, Naima gets involved in the alliance, and the more time passes, the better the partnership of convenience seems to work – until Naima gets wind of the professor’s actual intentions.
