Four Austrian students at the “Seeds for the Future” program in Rome

Vienna (OTS) Huawei’s “Seeds for the Future” student program took place last week. The company invited the best talent from technical courses to Rome for a week, including four from Austria.

At this year’s edition of “Seeds for the Future” in Rome at the beginning of July, 145 students from all over Europe had the opportunity to gain practical insights into technological career paths, deepen their understanding of innovation, digitalization, sustainability and entrepreneurship and meet like-minded people from all over the world Exchange Europe. The participants were selected in advance by local juries, and four students from Austrian universities were also represented.

Skilled workers for Europe’s future
For Huawei, the popular program is about preparing students as best as possible for demanding jobs in the technology industry. “Developing ICT talent is more important than ever as we navigate the complexities of the digital age. Europe is at the center of technological progress and it is essential that we invest in the training and development of our young professionals. By developing their skills and giving them the right tools and opportunities, we ensure that Europe remains a leader in the global digital landscape.”says Radoslaw Kedzia, Senior Vice President of Huawei Europe.

This time the Austrian jury chose Martin Höck from the TU Graz, Benjamin Raumauf from the TU Vienna as well as Danara Abushinova and Nikita Shevchenko, both of whom study at the Faculty of Computer Science at the University of Vienna. “It was great to meet so many people from all over Europe and it was exciting to see how we develop projects and implement common ideas directly. I also found it very interesting to learn more about how best to present your project. I can definitely recommend the program. If you have the opportunity, you should apply.”says Martin Höck.

Austria in the final
One focus of the week was a practical project competition. The Austrian group was also able to distinguish itself along with students from Iceland. “We worked intensively on a project with the Icelandic team for three days and ultimately made it to the final. The international collaboration and speaking in front of such a large audience were definitely big ‘learnings’ from the week for me.”said Benjamin Raumauf.

“It was a completely new experience for all students: intercultural collaboration on an innovative task and presenting it in a record time – a real challenge that everyone mastered equally outstandingly. Contacts for the personal and professional future were made here. The students not only spoke of great new ‘learnings’, but also of Europe-wide friendships. And that’s what makes me personally happy the most.”says Catharina Rieder, who is responsible for “Seeds for the Future” at Huawei Austria.

Teams from Ireland and the Netherlands ultimately secured the top two places in the final, giving them the opportunity to take part in the global “Tech4Good” competition in China next year. This year’s edition of “Seeds for the Future” was the first since COVID-19 to be held entirely in person, much to the delight of the students. In recent years, the majority of the program has been conducted online.
